It was lights, camera and action over the last two weeks for the 40th Toronto International Film Festival and now #TIFF15 is officially wrapped!
I had a great time taking the red carpet by storm, talking to a number of awesome people including Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Daniel Bruhl, Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin (who loved my earrings, by the way!), Ethan Hawke and more!
Even though TIFF is one of the largest film festivals in the world and a lot of Oscar contenders show there, style-wise, it’s a bit more casual in comparison to other festivals and red carpet premieres around the world. So when I was deciding what to wear, I opted to have a bit more fun with my wardrobe: faux leather crop-tops, cool patterned dresses, biker jackets, etc.
It was also a really great excuse to bust out a Chinese Brocade dress I made. I call it, “The Film Festival Dress” haha.
I made the dress using Simplicity – inspired by Project Runway #1650 ( for the bodice) and a shortened version of my trusty Stitch ‘n Save by McCall’s #3287.
While the actual construction of this dress was a breeze, working with this fabric was NOT. It unraveled so easily that even moving it from one table to the next caused fraying! So I decided to zigzag the edges as soon as I cut my pieces to prevent it from happening. It would also catch on everything…even my own hands!! Bah. Oh, and ironing this thing…takes extra, EXTRA precaution.
Nonetheless, I loved the dress so much that I decided to team up with Scott McCLellan to do a really cool creative photo shoot. We also shot a neat behind the scenes look at the making of “The Film Festival Dress”.

And shoutouts to Andrea Mina, Sunny Thrasher & Kasey-Michaela Titchener for their time & effort! Oh, and Dani Schmidek for picking the kernels up off the floor! haha
