I’ve had this wide leg jumpsuit pattern in my stash for a very long time, but was always so skeptical about how it would turn out. I had a difficult time envisioning it, but after seeing some great versions on Instagram, I was inspired to give it a shot for my cousins wedding. Here’s how the finished garment looks:

Pattern & Construction

V9075 is a very easy pattern that I would definitely recommend to new sewists who want to up their game. It comes with the bodice fully lined, but because this was the first time using this pattern and it took me a bit of time (not a lot! just a bit!) to get the fit just right, I left the lining out for the sake of time…cuz you know, I didn’t give myself too much time to sew this up before my cousin’s wedding! The only thing I would note is that the crotch is high, so I would recommend cutting it lower to the biggest size 14.Sweet Shard V9075 Vogue McCalls Jumpsuit

Belt

I also decided to add a belt for a little extra detail. Without it, I thought it looked a little plain. To create the buckle, I used a 1.5″ wide belt buckle kit. For the belt itself, this is simply 4″ wide strip of fabric with interfacing. I really love the way it turned out and get so many compliments on it! I would definitely say that the belt makes it look just a bit more store bought.

Fabric

I used a linen-look (no…not real linen, womp womp!) from Fabricland, that I purchased for $5/m. As soon as I saw this fabric, I knew it would be the perfect material for an end of summer wedding. It’s thick enough for the cooler evenings, but light and breathable enough for warm days. I also loved the dark green flower pattern on it, lending it to the fall season as well.

Comfort

Guuuuurl let me tell you how comfortable this jumpsuit is. It’s so perfect for a fun night out! I’ve worn this to two weddings and felt almost too chic to be as comfortable as I was!

The best part was that at the end of the night, I was able to kick my feet up and even sit just like this:

Final Thoughts

I can’t even tell you how much I love this V9075 jumpsuit and recommend you giving this a shot. The amount of compliments I received when I wore this exact outfit (this was just before the 2nd wedding I wore it to!) is unbelievable. Aside from knowing that I made something so awesome that other people like, absolutely no one wore an outfit even close to it. So there’s another big win! But of course, that’s always the win anytime you sew your own clothes 😀

xo!

  1. WOW so beautiful – it almost shimmers in the sunshine! It suits you so perfectly I’m not a bit surprised at the compliments flowing and I agree that matching belt sets it over the top for a professional finish. I think you should make a bunch of these in all sorts of fabrics – linen/rayon mix, silk and velvet for the holiday season. Imagine it in a drapey silk red velvet?! It would look stunning on you.

  4. This jumpsuit is just amazing and this floral fabric is EVERYTHING! Such a beautiful base colour on you too.

  5. I found your site and began to read. I’ve been looking for some new ideas. I have a wedding and 2 quilting cruises coming up. I really like this design and feel I could produce it with proper attention and diligence (ha ha). My main question is – how do you go to the bathroom?!?

LOL!!! girl. you either limit the amount of liquids you take or you just gotta be okay with getting half naked in the bathroom!

  8. Hey Sharadah, I recently bought this Vogue pattern and discovered your article after Googling ‘what fabrics to use with V9075’. I think this fabric works so so well! This is actually the most stunning jumpsuit I’ve EVER seen. When I’m looking for Linen look/ blend fabrics they’re coming up like £15 a meter minimum. I live in the UK and my Fabric Land doesn’t have any good Linin fabric colours. Do you have any recommendations for where to buy linen fabric in a similar style to this which doesn’t cost the earth?? Thanks! Anna

      Hi Anna!
      Thanks so much 😀

£15/m? wowza that’s expensive! I usually get my material on the sale rack…I don’t think Fabricland in Canada ships internationally, but give Michael Levine Fabrics in LA (they have some pretty dope stuff for mega cheap) or Mood Fabrics a shot.

      Good luck!

  9. Your jumpsuit is so elegant! I love the belt. I’m thinking about trying this but you’re right – the belt absolutely makes it. Do you know where I could find a tutorial to try make one? I’ve never come across a fabric covered buckle like yours before. Thank you 😊

Hi Fran! The buckle package came with the instructions on how to cover it with fabric. For the belt itself, here’s what I did:
      1. 1 long strip of fabric folded in half length-wise
      2. stitch all the way around, leaving a gap to flip right side out. press, stitch opening closed
      3. made tiny button holes as the belt hole
      4. repeat #1 & #2 on the belt loop
