Hey Friends! This week’s post is dedicated to M7121, a sweet elastic waist maxi dress from McCalls. I’ve had this pattern in my collection for over a year now and only just decided to give it a shot now, thinking it would be a perfect casual summer maxi.
Pattern & Construction:
- Cut the smallest size: 6
- Skirt: View B
- Bodice Back: View C/D – Racer Back
- Skill Level: Really easy make. If you’re just starting to sew, this might be a good pattern to work off of.
Finished Version:
Inspired by Mimi G’s version of it, mine looks a little different than hers and what’s on the pattern cover. The bodice is a little big on me and of course I could have taken it in to have it fit it better, but my fabric didn’t have enough stretch for me to be able to pull it over my shoulders, so I just left it as it.
That being said, I’m still happy with the way it turned out. I’ve gotten so many compliments wearing this dress. Someone even asked if I was going to a wedding! #WorksForMe!
Additionally…
I think the way this dress turned out might do a little better with a belt. But not just any belt, a matching belt made from the same fabric. I feel like as it is now, it could use just a bit more … pizzazz. Thoughts?
Final Thoughts:
M7121 is definitely a pattern to keep. I think this style of dress never goes out of style and it’s something I could be using in 10 years from now. It’s a great casual dress that can be made for very little cash. The fabric I used was only $3/m! That, coupled with how quick it was to put together makes this a stellar dress and pattern!
xo!

I think it’s perfect the way it is. Did you add an elasticized waistband or is that included with the pattern?
Thank you! The pattern comes with an elastic waistband.
