There is nothing more classic than a fitted plain white t-shirt. It’s a wardrobe staple. So imagine my surprise when I realized I didn’t have one! Yes I’ve got other types like this boyfriend tee, but it’s not the same as a fitted one, not as feminine, you know? So I decided to go for a simple make this week, with a deeper v-neck tee to show off the good ol’ décolletage to make it a bit more ‘lady-like’!
Pattern & Construction:
Making this v-neck tee wasn’t complex at all. I took some photos along the way to show how I came up with my pattern pieces and put everything together.
- For starters, I used my best fitting t-shirt to base my pattern off of.
- I stitched the shoulder seams first and then attached the arms.
- The side seams were next, giving one stitch from the ends of the sleeve right down to the bottom of the shirt.
- Then I hemmed the sleeves and bottom of the shirt.
- Lastly, I finished the neckline. Here is a really great tutorial on how to finish a v-neck.
Fabric & Price:
Sometimes it’s much simpler to just go out and buy yourself certain things rather than making them. For example, depending on how quickly you can make a t-shirt like this, you might be better off suited to just go and buy it. BUT!!! the cost of this fabric made it entirely worth it. I got it on sale for $2/m. TWO DOLLARS!!! And it took me no time to make it. So was it worth it? DUH. Not to mention, it’s so incredibly comfortable and soft!

Final Thoughts:
If you haven’t noticed by now, one of my ‘things’ is to make casual, wearable clothing that I can incorporate into my everyday wear. So even though making a simple t-shirt isn’t anything extravagant or jaw dropping, it’s really practical, perfect for my closet and matches my style well. When I have the time and access to well-priced fabrics, I’ll probably opt to make this again over buying it from a store!
