There is nothing more classic than a fitted plain white t-shirt. It’s a wardrobe staple. So imagine my surprise when I realized I didn’t have one! Yes I’ve got other types like this boyfriend tee, but it’s not the same as a fitted one, not as feminine, you know? So I decided to go for a simple make this week, with a deeper v-neck tee to show off the good ol’ décolletage to make it a bit more ‘lady-like’!

Pattern & Construction:

Making this v-neck tee wasn’t complex at all.  I took some photos along the way to show how I came up with my pattern pieces and put everything together.

  1. For starters, I used my best fitting t-shirt to base my pattern off of.
  2. I stitched the shoulder seams first and then attached the arms.
  3. The side seams were next, giving one stitch from the ends of the sleeve right down to the bottom of the shirt.
  4. Then I hemmed the sleeves and bottom of the shirt.
  5. Lastly, I finished the neckline. Here is a really great tutorial on how to finish a v-neck.
Fabric & Price:

Sometimes it’s much simpler to just go out and buy yourself certain things rather than making them. For example, depending on how quickly you can make a t-shirt like this, you might be better off suited to just go and buy it. BUT!!! the cost of this fabric made it entirely worth it. I got it on sale for $2/m. TWO DOLLARS!!! And it took me no time to make it. So was it worth it? DUH. Not to mention, it’s so incredibly comfortable and soft!

Final Thoughts:

If you haven’t noticed by now, one of my ‘things’ is to make casual, wearable clothing that I can incorporate into my everyday wear. So even though making a simple t-shirt isn’t anything extravagant or jaw dropping, it’s really practical, perfect for my closet and matches my style well. When I have the time and access to well-priced fabrics, I’ll probably opt to make this again over buying it from a store!
