Happy Canada Day friends! This year is Canada’s 150th birthday, so I thought I’d make my red & white ensemble for the day using M7542.
M7542 Hack:
I made this top using M7542. This version is a bit of a pattern hack, but you can see my review of the original pattern here. To get this look, this is what I did:
- Left out the sleeves
- The pattern calls for a straight stitch down the center back, but I added buttons instead.
Fabric:
This is upholstery fabric from King Textiles downtown Toronto. I had it lying around for an old DIY project and thought this would be a good time to use it up. I was worried it might be a little too tough on the skin, but it’s not too bad!
Final Thoughts:
This is a great pattern to hack. I think if I try this again, I might do it with a zipper up the back for variety. It didn’t take very long at all, about 3 hours in total. So if you’re looking for an easy make, give this one a shot!
xo!

So cute! I don’t think I’ve EVER seen darts so perfect – the fabric, placement everything about them is amazing 🙂 Love the buttons down the back too. Lovely top!
Thanks Kathleen! I think I got a little luck with the darts to be honest, I was surprised myself at the placement!
