Little Black Drop Waist Dress

It’s spring. That means sunshine and bright colours. But no matter what season it is, a little black dress is always in. A little history lesson for you: up until the 1920s, black was (still is) for mourning, but you weren’t tossing on a black dress to get on at a party. It wasn’t our go-to/safe colour. But thanks to Coco Chanel, pretty much every girl out there has one!

Fabric & Construction:

I used 2m of stretch knit fabric to put diy little black drop waist dress together. The reason it took so much fabric is because of the skirt portion, which is a circle skirt (making circle skirts, it can eat up a lot of fabric). If you want to make something similar, here’s how I did it:

1. Assemble the front bodice and then the back bodice entirely (top bodice, both bands, lower bodice).
2. Attach the front & back together
3. Attach skirt.

Styling & Final Thoughts:

What I love about this dress is that it’s pretty versatile. Pictured below, I’m wearing it with pumps, which dresses up the look, giving it a touch of sophistication. However, I’ve worn this with sneakers to the movies, completely changing the look to cute & adorable! I’m all about making sure everything I have can do double duty. I think many pieces out there can do that, it’s just up to you and your individual style on how to figure it out! So don’t be nervous to make the most out of your clothes!
